Four Year Old Children:

- Play is more imaginative and complex for them and can be continued for longer periods. They enjoy new experiences and strive to be more independent.

-They communicate in compound and complex sentences and can follow multi-step directions.

-They will initiate conversations with others and will share personal experiences without adult help.

-Their capacity for learning math concepts has increased. They are beginning to use logical reasoning to solve problems. Language is used to compare and describe items. They will recognize numerals to 10 +. They can recite months of the year, days of the week, and the four seasons.

-They are becoming aware of rhyme and beginning sounds in words.

-They engage in longer periods of play and exercise. They are able to run, climb, jump, hop, skip, march, and gallop. They can throw, catch (with two hands and their body), and kick a ball.
-Finger dexterity is improving.
-They are very curious about the world. They are beginning to separate fantasy from reality. They will investigate, observe, gather information, copare and discuss observations, and form explanations.
-They have a better grasp on their emotions and will develop "coping" strategies to handle situations and conflicts.
-Their artwork is becoming more realistic.
-They enjoy stories, poems, complex songs, nursery rhymes and dramatic play.
